We'd like to welcome our first endorsee, Wayne Free, the drummer for The Embers, to the Cox Drum Family!   Wayne is currently playing "The Peerless" snare drum out on the road.  When asked about the Peerless Snare that Wayne plays, the sound engineer for The Embers, Bob Blair, says “Words can’t describe how good that motherf**ker sounds!”

It's a 6x14, 10 ply, 6.8mm, Curly Maple shell.  The inspiration for this drum comes from the first drum set that I got when I was 12 years old, which was a 10 piece, 1982 Ludwig Classic Maple kit in a natural maple finish.  The kit included an 8x14 Coliseum Snare Drum that really lived up to its name.  The curly maple used in our “Peerless” snare is a sonically and visually pleasing alternative to the standard maple shell.  It’s slightly bright with some nice mid-low tones and a long sustain.  The triple flanged rims let this beauty sing!

This exotic stunner is a 6x14, 10-ply African Waterfall Bubinga snare drum, that we are calling “The Eddie Bailey Signature Snare Drum”.  It was inspired by my longtime friend and drumming hero, Eddie Bailey.  I first heard him play when I was 10 or 11, The Swingin’ Medallions were rehearsing at the YMCA in Greenwood, SC and I could hear them playing as I was leaving a football practice.  A couple of years later, when I began playing drums, my mom knew him and asked if he would come by our house to give me some tips.  He sat down and played my kit, I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever heard.  I was completely hooked on the drums!  As I got older, we became friends and I ended up watching him play countless shows.  I always aspired to play as solidly and with as much finesse and feel as he did. Eddie purchased his prized Sonor Bubinga drum kit in the early 80’s and every time I was fortunate enough to sit in on a song and play that kit, I loved the way it sounded.  It was deep, rich and full, with massively powerful low end.  Over the course of his life, Eddie played thousands of shows with The Swingin’ Medallions, Kinfolk, The Fabulous Expressions and many other bands. This Signature Snare Drum is my tribute to Eddie, who we lost way too soon.

This looker is called, “The Double Shot”, it’s a 5x14, 10 ply Maple shell reminiscent of the snare drum that my friend and mentor, Joe Morris, the Original Drummer for The Swingin’ Medallions  played on the 1966 smash hit song, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love”, at Arthur Smith Studios in Charlotte, NC. That song and this type of snare drum- just like Joe, have stood the test of time! The triple flanged hoops and the 10-ply maple shell, sourced from Michigan, give it that wide open smack and crisp tone that you can hear when you cue up “Double Shot” or “Hey Hey Baby”.  Joe and I had many conversations honing in the design of this drum and I wanted to give props by putting his name on this Signature Snare Drum. As a plus, we have one of these snare drums currently on stage with the Medallions and their drummer, Marcus Gullen!

Our Switch-Sticks are the perfect solution for a lower volume, textured sound.  They are each comprised of seven, 3/16" diameter Birch dowels that are 16 1/2" long, which is a little longer than the average multi-rod stick. Plus, our grips are Military Grade Polyolefin.
